Down to Earth Garden Club

I love planting big pots. You have so much more control over color and composition than you do in the ground. I've fallen in love with the combination of coleus and asparagus ferns for a shady pot. Does anyone else have a favorite combination? Share your ideas for next year. And don't be surprised if I swipe them for the Brady Street lot. I've got 4 pots there now.

You are right. That combination is very impressive. I must say that pot is gorgeous. Is that the one from Arizona?

No that is the one from DuBois believe it or not. It is growing in my back yard under some white pines.
Its mate is in the corral on the Brady Street lot. It has coleus and asparagus fern. Ted Lyons had some gorgeous coleus this year.
I did have some pictures from Arizona that used coleus in pots, I think. You wouldn't think that they would do well in the hot sun.
I like them because they are colorful even when they aren't blooming.

The front of my home is shaded by a majestic row of Maples. I can't get anything colorful to grow there.  I wonder how these would do between my hostas? 

I don't see why they wouldn't. The ones at my house get morning sun and the ones on the Brady Street lot are under a tree. I'm going to experiment with putting them in the ground next year. I've never grown them that way. If you decide to try it let us know how it works.

My front porch gets evening sun and everything gets spindly.  I'll take pics if I plant some next year.
