Hi there!
If you can take the trouble of a digging few new holes (granted you have nice dirt and a water supply as that tree will sap your other plants water up quickly), I always add a few colorful impatiens in my shade perennials. WOW! They do not grow super tall but they really branch out. No deadheading needed and I put in just white and I love it but they come in many beautiful colors. After all that hype, should I tell you??? I feel I must....
THEY ARE ANNUALS....but worth the little trouble to add yearly!
