Winding Up 2006 PDF Print E-mail

As 2006 comes to an end we can look back on a year that brought some new and interesting concepts to the downtown area. The rock garden on the Brady Street Lot was totally renovated. This area was mulched with patterns of gravel and wood chips and was replanted with yuccas and sedums. A clematis covered arch and sculpture were add to the main planting bed at the City Building and the side bed was replanted in shrubs, roses and other permanent plantings which will give the area color and interest through the entire season. In an effort to enliven the corridor between West Long and Washington Avenue 5 flower boxes and a planter were added.  Three delightful and colorful birdhouses were added to the eastern bed on the embankment and new plantings were added to the western bed. In addition extensive work was done on the eroded areas near the stairs. Two beds at the DuBois Public Library were relandscaped. Old, over grown shrubs were replaced with exciting new and colorful plantings.

The Down to Earth Garden Club also enjoyed a spring trip to the Philadelphia Flower show, a number of educational workshops and programs through out the year.
